Judge Tamra Walker was appointed as Family Court Judge in June 2021 by New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio. She received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina and her law degree from St. John’s University, School of Law. After graduating from law school, Judge Walker started her legal career serving children and families with the New York City Administration for Children’s services in The Bronx. Judge Walker served for 11 years at ACS, advancing from a legal intern to Assistant Borough Chief in Queens County. She has litigated and supervised hundreds of matters involving child abuse and neglect during her time at ACS. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Walker served for 5 years as a Court Attorney-referee in Bronx and Queens Family Courts where she presided over custody, visitation, and family offense matters. Judge Walker continues to sit in Queens Family Court primarily hearing custody, visitation, and family offense matters. Judge Walker is a proud New Yorker who was born and raised in the Bronx. She is married with 2 children and is active in her community and their schools. She is also an avid runner and preparing to run the NYC Marathon for the second time.
